TORQUE BOX REPAIR AND SUBFRAME CONNECTORS
MACHINE SHOP SERVICES
Follow along as I do some repairs and upgrades to badly damaged torque boxes on a 91 Mustang LX. This car will also receive a set of subframe connectors. The owner wisely decided on installing a set at this time.
In this photo you can see the heavy metal plate that was once welded to the torque box. I knew something wasn't right when I first saw this. The drivers side didn't have a plate on there so I knew it had to be pretty ugly underneath here.
As you can see, it's pretty bad under that plate. Someone cut away part of the torque box itself.
In this photo you can see where I've started to weld the framerail where the lower torque box is located. I'll also add a plate which will span the opening underneath the control arm. This plate will tie in with the outer part of the lower torque box. This will tie the inner and outer portions of the lower torque box together making it stronger than when it left the factory.
You can see in this picture that I've welded the torque box where it goes up against the inner frame rail. Someone else already welded inside the torque box. You can see a big washer that they welded where the control arm bolt passes through.
Here's a shot of the plates I made to repair the Stangs wasted torque boxes. These will fit over the original torque boxes and help to restore and improve what once was.
Here's one shot of them installed and awaiting undercoating.
If you would like me to perform the same repair and upgrade to your FOX body car. E-mail me for a price.
